Vol. 404 No. 4

Written Answers. - Interest on Overpaid Tax.

Frank Crowley

Question:

122 Mr. Crowley asked the Minister for Finance whether interest will be paid on overpaid tax to a person (details supplied) in County Cork.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that repayments of tax have been made in respect of the years 1984-85 to 1987-88. There is no statutory basis on which to pay interest on these repayments except for an amount of £4,642.25 repaid in respect of the year 1986-87. Interest of £617.85 is due in respect of this amount and a cheque in settlement will issue shortly.
