Vol. 404 No. 4

Written Answers. - Drogheda New Garda Station.

Michael Bell

Question:

140 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Finance the reason for the delay in providing a new Garda station for Drogheda, County Louth; when he proposes to give sanction to this long awaited development which is much needed in the Drogheda area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The site purchased in 1989 for a new Garda headquarters in Drogheda is of archaeological interest. Results of an archaeological survey which were received early last year necessitated a revision of the design of the station in order to preserve certain archaeological features.

The revised design is now being finalised following consultations with Drogheda Corporation, the Department of Justice and the Garda. Detailed design is proceeding in order to advance the project to tender stage with a view to placing a contract as soon as possible.
