Vol. 404 No. 5

Written Answers. - Mulhuddart (Dublin) School.

Jim Mitchell

Question:

78 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the fact that the board of management of Scoil an Chroí Ró Naofa Íosa, Huntstown, Mulhuddart, Dublin 15, has agreed to enrol a class of 15 travelling children in the school; that the school is severely overcrowded with children enrolled at present; if she will now give the go-ahead for the additional four classrooms needed at the school; if she will also approve the appointment of a remedial teacher; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware of the situation in relation to Scoil an Chroí Ró Naofa Íosa, Huntstown, Mulhuddart, Dublin 15. Officials from my Department met with the school authorities on 29 January 1991 and the whole matter of the provision of additional accommodation was discussed in the light of the enrolment projections. This question needs to be further considered in my Department and a decision will be conveyed to the school authorities at the earliest possible date.

The question of allocation of additional remedial teachers to serve the needs of disadvantaged pupils will arise under arrangements recently agreed as part of the Programme for Economic and Social Progress.

The needs of the particular school mentioned will be considered when decisions in the matter are being taken later in the year.
