Vol. 404 No. 5

Written Answers. - Demand for Remedial Teachers.

Alan M. Dukes

Question:

79 Mr. Dukes asked the Minister for Education whether the commitment contained in the Programme for Economic and Social Progress to allocate an additional £1 million in 1991, £2 million in 1992 and £3 million in 1993 to assist in various areas of disadvantage at all levels in the education system will enable the urgent outstanding demands for remedial teachers in a number of primary schools in County Kildare to be met.

The question of allocating additional remedial teachers to serve the needs of disadvantaged pupils will arise under arrangements recently agreed as part of the Programme for Economic and Social Progress.

The needs of the schools mentioned will be considered when decisions in the matter are being taken later in the year.
