Written Answers. - County Kildare Crime Levels.

Question:

148 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice if he will outline the increase-decrease in crime in County Kildare over the past three years; the total number and category of crimes committed during that period; the number of convictions on foot of these crimes; the number pending; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Crime statistics are recorded on the basis of Garda sub-districts, not counties. Indictable crime figures showing the totals for all the Garda sub-districts in County Kildare, some of which extend beyond the county boundary for the years 1988 and 1989 are set out in a tabular statement. Figures for 1990 are not yet available. Information about the number of convictions is not readily available and could not be compiled without the expenditure of a disproportionate amount of Garda time and resources. Following is the statement:
