Vol. 404 No. 6

Written Answers. - Death of County Louth Woman.

Michael Bell

Question:

175 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Health if, in the exercise of his statutory function, he will initiate a public inquiry into the death of a person (details supplied) in County Louth who died on 22 October 1990, three weeks after she gave birth; if his attention has been drawn to the substantial public disquiet in relation to this matter; if, in the interest of interested parties he will initiate a public inquiry so that important questions raised at the inquest can be clearly established and defined so that the public disquiet referred to can be clarified; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Since this matter is being pursued with the hospital by the family's legal representatives it would be inappropriate for me to make any statement on the matter at this stage.
