Vol. 404 No. 6

Written Answers. - Dublin City Heroin Dealing.

Tony Gregory

Question:

51 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the School Street area of Dublin city is now the centre of heroin dealing; the action he is taking to deal with this issue; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that, while there is no evidence of substantial or widespread heroin abuse in this country, there has recently been some heroin dealing activity in the area referred to in the question. Specific measures have been taken to counteract this activity and have resulted in a considerable number of detections of drug-related offences. These measures are continuing and the gardaí are monitoring the situation closely. Any further action that may be required to tackle the problem in this area will be taken.
