Vol. 404 No. 6

Written Answers. - Increased Security Arrangements.

Máirín Quill

Question:

79 Miss Quill asked the Minister for Justice arising from the increased security demands at airports and other installations due to the war in the Gulf, if he will give an assurance that gardaí will not be taken off normal Garda duties in order to meet with these newly emerging demands.

The allocation of Garda resources to any particular duties is a matter basically for Garda management in the light of their assessment of need, available resources and all other relevant circumstances. I am informed by the Garda authorities that it is the intention that whatever additional security is necessary should be provided without any diminution of the Garda service available to the general public.
