Vol. 404 No. 6

Written Answers. - Public Buildings Access Facilities for Disabled.

Richard Bruton

Question:

87 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Finance if he will outline in the context of the programme established under the green paper Towards a Full Life (a) the number of public buildings which are fully accessible to the disabled, (b) the number which have been made accessible within the past three years, and (c) the number which remain to be made accessible.

The compilation of the information sought in relation to public buildings would involve a disproportionate amount of staff resources which could not be justified.

Access facilities for disabled people are incorporated in all plans for new buildings.

In relation to existing buildings, it is the policy of the Commissioners of Public Works to ensure that access facilities for disabled persons are provided where this is feasible.
