Question:121 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Energy if he will outline his plans to extend the gas pipeline to Ardee, County Louth; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Written Answers. - Extension of Gas Pipeline
Bord Gáis Éireann are the statutory body with responsibility for development of the gas transmission and distribution grids and, therefore, any plans for extensions are a matter for the board. I understand, however, that Bord Gáis are currently considering a proposal for an extension of the gas grid westward into Counties Cavan and Monaghan, to serve a number of commercial and industrial customers. This project, if it takes place, would allow for the possibility of an extension of the grid to connect up similar customers in Ardee. The proposal is still being evaluated by BGÉ and no final decision has yet been taken.
