Vol. 404 No. 7

Written Answers. - Road Grant Funding.

John Connor

Question:

83 Mr. Connor asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the fact that a section of the national primary N4 road close to Carrick-on-Shannon, County Leitrim, and a section of the national route N5, west of Tarmonbarry, County Roscommon were closed due to flooding for several weeks within the past 12 months, causing acute inconvenience and damage to commercial activity; and if he intends to provide the necessary funding to Roscommon County Council to render these sections of national routes safer from flood and inundation in future years.

I am aware of the problems caused by periodic flooding at these locations.

Roscommon County Council have submitted proposals to alleviate the problem at Pile Bridge on the N5.
With regard to the N4, both Leitrim and Roscommon County Councils have submitted an estimate of the cost of works to alleviate the problem at Carrick-on-Shannon. The question of road grant funding to resolve both problems will be considered in the context of the 1991 road grant allocations which will be made within the next few weeks.
