Vol. 404 No. 8

Written Answers. - Home Help Pay Levels.

Edward Nealon

Question:

73 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Health whether he has reviewed the pay and conditions of home help workers; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The salary scale for home helps with effect from 1 October 1990 is in the range £158.43-£168.59 per week. This scale is increased from time to time in accordance with increases granted to non-nursing personnel generally. An increase of 4 per cent would be applicable from 1 January 1991 in the event of acceptance of the terms of the agreement on pay outlined in the Programme for Economic and Social Progress.

With regard to persons employed in the home help service on a part-time basis, the position is that the rate of remuneration varies throughout the country and relates to the particular circumstances involved. The level of remuneration is accordingly reviewed by health boards in the context of the particular requirements and types of tasks undertaken in an individual case.
