Vol. 404 No. 9

Written Answers. - Castlegregory (Kerry) Co-operative.

Michael Moynihan

Question:

122 Mr. Moynihan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he has any proposals whereby financial and/or advisory help can be provided for St. Brendan's Co-operative plant, Castlegregory, County Kerry, so that it can continue as a vegetable processing unit; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

No formal application for financial assistance has been received in my Department in respect of St. Brendan's Co-operative plant. Aid for horticulture is available under the following schemes: farm improvement programme for on-farm production, EC producers organisation scheme for assistance to growers in establishing producer groups, FEOGA processing and marketing grant aid programme for the construction modernisation and rationalisation of enterprises engaged in the treatment, marketing or processing of horticultural products and operational programme for rural development.

An application for grant aid can be considered on the basis of the plant's eligibility under any of the above schemes. An advisory service is provided by Teagasc with the local office based in Tralee.
