Question:153 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Justice if he intends introducing a compulsory registration scheme for the Irish security industry.

For reasons which have been outlined to the House on a number of previous occasions — for example, in my reply to Question No. 61 of 9 May 1990 — the introduction of a system of compulsory registration of security firms would raise issues of considerable difficulty. I have no plans, therefore, to introduce such a system but the position will continue to be kept under review.
