Question:156 Mr. Cotter asked the Minister for Justice if it is proposed to close the courthouse in Ballybay, County Monaghan; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
I propose to take Questions Nos. 155 and 156 together.
A proposal to rationalise district court venues throughout the country has been mentioned in this House by me on a number of occasions. I have had a departmental review carried out to help in determining to what extent the present 250 or so venues might appropriately be reduced. I am at present considering the findings of that review and I have not yet made a final decision in relation to Clones or Ballybay or, indeed, any individual district court venue.
