Vol. 404 No. 9

Written Answers. - Free Legal Aid Centres.

Michael Bell

Question:

160 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Justice the plans he has to sanction the provision of extra free legal aid centres; when such sanction will apply; the extra finance which will be provided by his Department; where the centres will be located; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The grant-in-aid to the legal aid board for the provision of legal services under the scheme of civil legal aid and advice in 1991 is £2.483 million. That is an increase of £320,000 as compared with their grant in 1990.

The additional moneys will, among other things, enable the board to open three additional full-time law centres. The location of those law centres will be announced in due course.
