Question:

173 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline (a) the amount of the country road block grants for each local authority in each of the years from 1980 to 1990 inclusive, and (b) the proportion of each county road block grant earmarked for road strengthening during the same period.

I propose to circulate with the Official Report, a tabular statement setting out the information requested in the first part of the question.

The extent to which the block grants are used for road strengthening is a matter entirely at the discretion of individual local authorities and information in this regard is not available in my Department.
