Vol. 404 No. 9

Written Answers. - Leixlip (County Kildare) School Extension.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

212 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education the current position regarding the provision of extra facilities at Scoil Uí Dhálaigh, Leixlip, County Kildare; if she will outline the full extent of the facilities now to be provided; when she expects construction works to commence if the required funds are available to carry out this work in the current year; if her attention has been drawn to the urgent need in this case; if there is any specific reason for the delay in providing the required facilities; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

As the Deputy will be aware from my replies to previous parliamentary questions regarding Scoil Uí Dhálaigh, Leixlip, County Kildare I have approved an eight classroom extension and some ancillary accommodation for the school.

Consultants engaged by the school authorities have submitted tender documents to my Department and these are being examined. It has been explained to the school authorities that the 1991 capital situation would not permit the invitation of tenders for the project at this stage but that the matter will be kept under review in the light of expenditure.

My Department have recently approved a scheme of improvements to the existing school premises and these can proceed at once.
