220 Tomás Mac Giolla asked the Minister for Education if, in respect of the 47 pre-schools for travelling children funded by her Department, she will outline (1) the location of these schools, (2) the proportion of funding given by her Department, (3) the current enrolment and (4) the total number of staff employed (a) on a permanent and (b) on a temporary basis.
A list below indicates the locations of the 47 pre-schools for travelling children which are grant aided by my Department.
Grant aid is provided to the level of 98 per cent of the approved teaching and transport costs. A grant has also been made available over the last number of years to assist with the purchase of educational equipment. Approximately 550 travelling children are currently enrolled in the pre-schools.
The employment of staff in pre-schools is a matter in each case for the school authorities concerned.
