221 Tomás Mac Giolla asked the Minister for Education if she will outline (1) the most recent data available on the number of national schools and total enrolment by county, (2) the number of ex-quota posts as remedial teacher allocated to schools by county, and (3) when she will publish new criteria for the allocation of remedial teaching posts.
222 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Education if she will outline the criteria used for the appointment of shared remedial teachers in rural primary schools; and the number of primary schools which have the service of a remedial teacher.
I propose to take Questions Nos. 221 and 222 together.
The following table shows the number of national schools and total enrolment by county for the school year 1989-1990, the most recent period for which details are available.
In relation to remedial teachers, I would refer the Deputies to my reply to Question No. 91 of 12 December 1990. Remedial teaching posts are and will continue to be allocated on the basis of priority of need as identified and reported upon by my inspectorate.
