Vol. 404 No. 9

Written Answers. - Claremorris (Mayo) School.

Enda Kenny

Question:

232 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the burning of Partry national school, Claremorris, County Mayo; the measures she is taking to provide temporary accommodation for the school children there; if she will initiate proceedings to have the building replaced; and if she will make emergency funds available to provide a new replacement school as soon as possible.

I am aware of the situation in relation to Partry national school, Claremorris, County Mayo. My Department's officials have met with the school authorities since the fire occurred on 6 February 1991. The local architect inspected the school premises on that day to assess the damage. I can assure the Deputy that all necessary advices have been given to the school authorities and will continue to be available regarding the reinstatement of the building and the provision of temporary accommodation. The financing of the necessary measures is an insurance matter and no funds could be made available from my Department in this respect. The school authorities fully accept this.
