Vol. 404 No. 9

Written Answers. - Rules for National Schools.

Patrick McCartan

Question:

27 Mr. McCartan asked the Minister for Education the reason the most recently published edition of the Rules for National Schools, which is the 1965 edition, introduced in its preface a stipulation that explicit recognition be given to denominational schools, since such words had not previously been included in the rules as published.

I am not aware of the background to the decision in 1965 to include in the Rules of National Schools the statement to which the Deputy refers.

I should mention that I have indicated my acceptance of the recommendation of the Primary Review Body for a general review of the Rules for National Schools.
