28 Mr. Dukes asked the Minister for Education the reason (1) the maintenance portion of a higher education grant for a student (details supplied) in County Kildare was not paid until December 1990 and (2) the tuition portion of the grant was not paid to the college by 1 February 1991.
Day-to-day administration of the higher education grants scheme is entrusted by statute to local authorities and, therefore, details of the payment date of grant assistance in particular cases are not normally available in my Department. I have asked my Department to clarify the position with the local authority concerned in this case and I will communicate with the Deputy on the matter very soon.
