Vol. 404 No. 9

Written Answers. - Conductive Education Funding.

Bernard Allen

Question:

49 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Education if she will outline her position in relation to funding and promoting conductive education in Ireland.

Paul Bradford

Question:

198 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Education if she will provide funding in 1991 to the Association for the Promotion of Conductive Education which has been requested since 1989.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 49 and 198 together.

I take it the Deputies are referring to the work of the Cork spastic school where a number of children are being taught making selective use of conductive methods.

As I informed the House on 27 June last, my Department has already assisted this school in having a teacher attend a course on conductive education by allowing the teacher special leave with pay and paying the salary of a replacement teacher.

My Department is currently reviewing the impact of this additional resource and considering whether further measures are necessary in order to maximise the benefit to the school.
