Vol. 404 No. 9

Written Answers. - Cork RTC.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

63 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education if she will outline her proposals to improve facilities at Cork Regional Technical College.

A number of projects, which form part of a major on-going development programme for the college, are at various stages of development.

These include an extension which I have sanctioned to provide improved student facilities, additional classrooms, and related consequential work to the existing building. Planning is at an advanced stage of completion and it is expected that tenders will be sought shortly.

I have also approved a new extension which will include library, information technology centre, lecture theatres and staff and student facilities. Approval has been given to the City of Cork Vocational Education Committee for the appointment of consultants to prepare a development plan which incorporates this project and which will ensure the effective progression of the various developments.

I am also pleased to say that a major equipment upgrading programme for the college's computer and hotel training areas is nearing completion.
