Vol. 404 No. 9

Written Answers. - Mortgage Interest Tax Relief.

John V. Farrelly

Question:

85 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Finance if a person (details supplied) in County Meath is eligible for tax relief on his mortgage interest repayments; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the last return of income received from the taxpayer was in respect of the year 1986-87.

A recent communication with Meath County Council has confirmed the amount of interest paid by the taxpayer during 1989-90. An amended certificate of tax-free allowances including a deduction for interest paid will issue to him within the next ten days.
