Michael Creed

Question:

94 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when a special beef premium scheme grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Cork; the reason for the delay; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Following the cessation of inspections under the 1990 special beef premium scheme herd owners were required before selling their cattle to bring cattle identity cards to the local office of my Department for checking and stamping. This requirement was widely advertised in the local and national press.

As the person named did not comply with this requirement when he was asked to do so, it is regretted that he cannot be paid any grants under the 1990 special beef premium scheme.

He has been deemed ineligible for grants under the 1990 suckler cow premium scheme because he made a false declaration in his application to the effect that two animals had been cows, i.e. had calved in February 1990, when they had not even calved for the first time at inspection on 27 August 1990.
