Vol. 405 No. 3

Written Answers. - Salmon Farming.

Roger T. Garland

Question:

155 Mr. Garland asked the Minister for the Marine whether Ballylongford, County Kerry is being sited for salmon farming.

My Department have on hands an application for a land-based trout-rearing unit to be based at Ballylongford. The unit would require a fish culture licence under the terms of the Fisheries (Consolidation) Act, 1959.

In addition, the project will require, in the normal way, planning permission and a discharge licence under the Water Pollution Acts from Kerry County Council. I understand that the council are processing relevant applications at present.
