Question:234 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice when the Garda Síochána will accede to requests from Dublin Corporation for the removal of a single yellow line (details supplied) in Dublin 1.
Written Answers. - Removal of Road Marking.
Section 95 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961, provides that road markings such as yellow lines to prohibit parking may only be removed from public roads by road authorities with the consent of the Garda Commissioner. I am informed by the Garda authorities that the Commissioner does not propose to consent to the removal of the yellow line at the place referred to in the question. I am also informed by the Garda authorities that the removal of the yellow line could be misleading to the public because parking at the location would continue to be prohibited under the Road Traffic General Bye Laws, 1964 and the Dublin Area Traffic and Parking Bye Laws, 1986 because there is a continuous white line in the centre of the roadway at the location in question.
