Vol. 405 No. 3

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funding.

Proinsias De Rossa

Question:

110 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Finance if his attention has been drawn to the concern expressed by a number of organisations at the apparently unfavourable treatment of female clubs and organisations in the allocation of national lottery grants especially in regard to community, sport and youth grants; if he will consider introducing any guidelines which would result in a fair disbursement of grants; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

111 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Finance whether his attention has been drawn to allegations of discrimination against womens' and girls' organisations in the distribution of national lottery funding; his views on whether there is foundation for these allegations; and his proposals to remedy same.

I propose to take the Questions Nos. 110 and 111 from Deputies De Rossa and O'Keeffe together.

As the Deputies are aware, the eligibility criteria for individual grant schemes funded from the lottery are primarily a matter for the relevant Ministers. However, I will bring their concern to the attention of Ministers responsible for the spending of lottery allocations, in order that they may ensure that there is no discrimination in the allocation of lottery moneys.
