Question:

130 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the amount contributed by the Exchequer to emigrant welfare groups in the past ten years.

Since 1981, successive Governments have provided financial assistance to emigrant welfare groups, based both in Ireland and abroad. The total assistance provided during the period has amounted to £2,170,500. The financial assistance provided in respect of each year is as follows:

The Deputy may wish to note that in this year's Estimates the Government have provided £700,000 for financial assistance to emigrant welfare groups in Britain and the United States.
