Vol. 405 No. 4

Written Answers. - Waiting List for ENT Treatment.

Phil Hogan

Question:

110 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Health the number of people awaiting ear, nose and throat treatment in the Carlow/Kilkenny community care area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have been informed by the South-Eastern Health Board that there are 13 people from the Carlow/Kilkenny area on the in-patient waiting list for ear, nose and throat treatment at Waterford Regional Hospital.

In 1989, I approved an additional £30,000 in order to reduce the in-patient waiting list for ENT treatment at Waterford Regional Hospital. This has resulted in a significant improvement in the overall ENT in-patient waiting list in the South-Eastern Health Board which has fallen from 395 in December 1989 to 118 at present, a reduction of 70 per cent.
