Vol. 405 No. 4

Written Answers. - EC Funding for Capital Projects.

Ivan Yates

Question:

71 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for the Marine if he will outline the level of EC funding he has received for capital projects in each of the past five years; and the projected level of similar financial support through the public capital programme and otherwise between now and 1993.

In so far as the information required by the Deputy is available it is set out in a table which is being circulated in the Official Report.

In the cases of aid for the construction and modernisation of vessels and aquaculture it is not possible to indicate the amounts which will be received in the 1991-93 period.

The level of aid for the construction and modernisation of vessels will depend on the multi annual guidance programme for the fleet which is to be agreed later this year and on the scope and results of the forthcoming review of the Common Fisheries Policy.
Aid for aquaculture is dependent on the level of private sector applications for aid, which is itself dependent on a variety of factors such as the availability of private finance, licensing, markets, etc. Other factors determining the level of aid include the availability generally of EC funds and the eligibility of projects.
