Vol. 405 No. 4

Written Answers. - Traffic Warden Service.

Ivan Yates

Question:

98 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Justice the cost of providing the traffic warden service in Dublin City since 1985; and the level of fines from parking offences.

The total sum expended by my Department for the six years 1985 to 1990 in respect of pay, equipment, and allowances for traffic wardens employed by the Garda Commissioner in the Dublin Metropolitan Area was approximately £5,400,000. Payments of fines-on-the-spot notices issued by traffic wardens and members of the Garda Síochána in the Dublin Metropolitan Area for the same period yielded approximately £12,599,000. In addition to this sum other revenues were also received by the Exchequer in the years in question in respect of court fines imposed for non-payment of fine-on-the-spot notices. Because of the manner in which court records are maintained it is not possible to identify the precise amount received in court fines in this connection.
