Question:

102 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline the level of EC funding which he has received for capital projects for each of the last five years; and the projected level of similar financial support through the public capital programme and otherwise between now and 1993 in the context of expenditure on national primary and secondary roads.

In relation to the first part of the question, the information is as follows:

The figures in the foregoing table in respect of commitments represent the aid committed on the basis of State expenditure in the year in question. Details of actual aid payments under the headings concerned are not available in my Department as they are not made through my Department's Vote.
The projected ERDF aid commitments for national primary road improvements, as set out in the operational programme on peripherality, are as follows:

£m (1990 prices)

1991

82.3

1992

98.6

1993

ERDF aid is also being provided under the operational programme for the improvement of other roads, national secondary roads, of major importance to the development of industry and tourism at sub-regional and local levels. A breakdown of ERDF aid for "other roads" by road classification is not available.
In addition to EC grant assistance, certain roads and sanitary projects qualify for loans from the European Investment Bank. Information on these loans is not available in my Department as they are dealt with by the Department for Finance.
