Vol. 405 No. 4

Written Answers. - Toll Operations.

Ivan Yates

Question:

103 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for the Environment the number of toll roads or bridges in operation here; the rate of return on the investment in such projects to date; and if there are any future projects of this type envisaged.

There are at present two toll facilities in operation under the terms of the Local Government (Toll Roads) Act, 1979 — the East-Link and West-Link bridges over the River Liffey. The rate of return to date on these projects is a matter for the private investors concerned and is influenced by the cost to them of borrowings for the projects and the levels of traffic using the facilities. The position in relation to further toll projects was set out in my reply to Questions Nos. 28 and 114 of 6 February 1991.
