Vol. 405 No. 5

Written Answers. - Centenarian Allowance.

Seán Power

Question:

77 Mr. Power asked the Minister for Finance the number of people who received the centenarian allowance last year and for the previous five years; and if he will consider increasing this allowance in the future.

The number of people who received the centenarians bounty for the last six years are as follows: 1985, 57; 1986, 65; 1987, 48; 1988, 61; 1989, 63 and 1990, 50.

The centenarians bounty was increased from £50 to £250 in May 1986 and I do not propose, at present, to increase it.
