Vol. 405 No. 5

Written Answers. - Tallaght (Dublin) New RTC.

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

110 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Education if she will outline in respect of the Tallaght Regional Technical College, Dublin 24 (a) the number of students to be admitted in 1991, (b) the courses which will be in operation in the 1991-92 year, (c) whether certificate, diploma and degree courses will be available from 1991 and (d) when a principal will be selected for the college.

As I have previously indicated in the Dáil, Tallaght RTC will open in 1992. It is expected that the initial enrolment of over 400 full time day students will take place in September, 1992. The establishment of, and intake to courses is a matter in the first instance for County Dublin Vocational Education Committee. The precise nature of individual courses and associated enrolments will be determined following consultations with interested parties and having regard to the requirements of local industry. With regard to course levels the emphasis in the initial stages of the college's operations will be on courses leading to the award of a certificate. The post of college principal has been advertised, and it is expected that the appointment will be effective before the end of the current academic year.
