Vol. 405 No. 7

Written Answers. - Créche Facilities.

Nuala Fennell

Question:

45 Mrs. Fennell asked the Minister for Labour if he will outline the allocation which is being made in 1991 to provide créche facilities at training centres as promised in the Programme for Economic and Social Progress.

I am considering ways and means of implementing the undertaking in the Programme for Economic and Social Progress in respect of the provision of child care facilities in training centres. In accordance with section IV, paragraph 104 of the PESP, I propose to identify, in the first half of this year, a number of prototypes of child care services appropriate to Irish conditions. This will be done in association with ICTU and FIE. The potential for support from the European Community will be fully exploited particularly in relation to the NOW programme whose aim is to promote equal opportunities for women in the field of employment and vocational training.

The Deputy will be aware that I established a task force on child care services last year and that FÁS participated in the work of the task force. I expect to receive the report of the task force shortly.
