Written Answers. - Arigna (Roscommon) Industrial Development.

Question:

72 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Energy if he will now request the ESB to fulfill their commitment to provide £3 million per annum for five years for industrial development in the Arigna area of County Roscommon to alleviate the problem caused by the pending closure of the ESB power station and the recent closure of the mines in the area.

The ESB recently contributed the sum of £1 million to the Arigna Enterprise Fund Company whose purpose is to administer funds from all sources so as to assist with the job creation projects identified in the Arigna task force report.

There was never any question of a commitment by the ESB to provide £3 million annually for the next five years.
