Vol. 406 No. 2

Written Answers. - Sewerage Grants.

Patrick D. Harte

Question:

12 Mr. Harte asked the Minister for the Environment if he will make grants available for the installation of purafloe and biocycle which are being marketed by Bord na Móna and are being recommended by environmental health officers as alternatives to single septic tanks servicing dwellings in rural Ireland; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The group sewerage grants scheme administered by my Department provides grants of up to £500 per house on the mainland and £750 per house on offshore islands for approved sewerage disposal systems where two or more households get together to provide sewerage facilities and where no such facilities exist or existing facilities are seriously deficient. It is not my intention to reintroduce grants for individual houses, nor, through grant aid, to encourage the use of particular systems or products.
