Vol. 406 No. 2

Written Answers. - Commercial Vehicle Parking.

Richard Bruton

Question:

33 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment whether he has taken any initiatives to deal with the problem of finding a suitable commercial vehicle park for Dublin which would allow restriction to be imposed on the parking of commercial vehicles in residential areas, and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Primary responsibility for securing appropriate long term parking facilities for large commercial vehicles rests with the owners of these vehicles. I have no proposals to provide such facilities nor am I aware that their provision is being considered by any of the Dublin local authorities.

As I indicated in my reply to Question No. 90 of 13 December last, I am awaiting the submission by Dublin County Council and Dún Laoghaire Corporation of lists of suitable sites in their functional areas for overnight parking onstreet for large vehicles. When these lists are available, I hope that it will be possible to introduce extra controls on parking of the vehicles concerned in appropriate locations.
