Vol. 406 No. 2

Written Answers. - National Drugs Formulary.

Bernard Allen

Question:

72 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he will make a statement on reports that general medical service doctors will not co-operate with the National Drugs Formulary until the general medical service pensions issue is resolved.

The issue of the National Drugs Formulary is not linked to any other issue. The National Drugs Formulary has been produced jointly by the Irish Medical Organisation and the Department of Health to encourage rational prescribing in general practice. I would regard any suggestion that doctors would act irresponsibly in relation to prescribing as offensive to the medical profession and this view would be shared by the vast majority of doctors.

Jim Mitchell

Question:

73 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health if it is his intention to transfer the treatment of tuberculosis from Peamount Hospital, County Dublin, to another hospital; and if so, his future plans for the hospital; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The future delivery of infectious disease services at Peamount Hospital is the subject of ongoing discussions between the board of the hospital and the Eastern Health Board. I am awaiting the outcome of these discussions.
