Question:

217 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for the Environment if he has satisfied himself that his Department have the resources to implement the new regulations on the importation of new and used motor vehicles which come into effect on 1 March 1991.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 216 and 217 together.

The making of the relevant regulations has been notified to the Society of the Irish Motor Industry, which represents importers of new vehicles, to all Irish-based trailer manufacturers and all commercial importers of used vehicles known to my Department.

Enforcement of the regulations is a matter for the Garda Síochána.
