Vol. 406 No. 3

Written Answers. - Cork Hospital's Waiting Lists.

Bernard Allen

Question:

246 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health the number waiting for treatment at Cork Dental Hospital.

I am advised by the Cork Dental Hospital that the numbers on the waiting list in the departments of the hospital are as follows: dental surgery, 567; prosthetics, 76; orthodontics, N/A; preventive and paediatrics, 155; conservation, 755; and periodontology, 500.

In most cases, persons awaiting treatment at Cork Dental Hospital are private patients of the hospital rather than health board referrals.

The level of the annual allocation from my Department to Cork Dental Hospital is under review at present. The hospital is being asked to provide an enhanced level of service, particularly for medical card holders and will receive an increased allocation when satisfactory arrangements are put in place.

Question:

247 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health the number of people awaiting cardiac surgery in the north Lee and south Lee community care areas at 31 December 1990; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Cardiac surgery services for the Southern Health Board area are provided at Cork Regional Hospital. The hospital does not break down its cardiac surgery waiting list by community care area. There were a total of 22 patients on the waiting list for cardiac surgery at the hospital at 31 December 1990.
