Vol. 406 No. 3

Written Answers. - Allowances for Handicapped Persons.

Michael Joe Cosgrave

Question:

23 Mr. Cosgrave asked the Minister for Health whether handicapped persons in long term residential care have an entitlement to weekly pocket money; and if he will make a statement on current practice in this regard.

Handicapped persons in long term residential care do not have a statutory entitlement to weekly pocket money. In practice the agency caring for the person with mental handicap pay pocket money to those residents who have no means and who are in a position to appreciate the value of such an allowance.
