Vol. 406 No. 4

Written Answers. - Recruitment of Civilians for Garda Work.

Seán Barrett

Question:

121 Mr. S. Barrett asked the Minister for Justice the reason no appointments have been made as a result of the Civil Service Commission examination/ interviews held to recruit civilians to undertake desk jobs in the Garda Síochána, and free gardaí for other duties such as beat duty; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am afraid the Deputy has been misinformed. A total of 250 civilian staff are being recruited to release gardaí from office jobs for operational duties. To date, 178 have been recruited and recruitment of the balance of 72 is continuing this year.
