Vol. 406 No. 4

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Census of Population.

Dick Spring

Question:

11 Mr. Spring asked the Taoiseach when he expects to have the preliminary results of this year's census.

The preliminary results of the forthcoming census of population which will be taken on Sunday, 21 April 1991 are expected to be published within three months of that date.

I am grateful for the information. As it will prove necessary for changes to take place in the constituency boundaries, will the Government introduce legislation in the autumn session?

That is a separate issue but I would like to elaborate further on my earlier response and indicate that the complete census figures and results will not be available for 18 months but that the district electoral divisions figures should be available in the summer of 1992.

Let us now proceed to Priority Questions to the Minister for Education. May I say, as I say so often, that 15 minutes only is provided for under Standing Orders to deal with these five questions.
