Vol. 406 No. 4

Written Answers. - Castleknock (Dublin) School Places.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

47 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the concern of many parents over the shortage of secondary school places in the Castleknock area of County Dublin in view of the rapid population expansion in the area; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

My Department are aware of the concern of some parents regarding the availability of post-primary school places for pupils from the Castleknock area of County Dublin.

Because of on-going housing developments in the area my Department have kept the position under annual review to take account of all relevant factors. These reviews indicate that for the present there are adequate post-primary school places available in adjoining areas to cater for the needs of the Castleknock area.

My Department will continue to review the position in Castleknock in the light of the most up-to-date data available on demographic trends, housing developments and primary school enrolments.
