Vol. 406 No. 5

Written Answers. - Poultry Farming.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

55 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason (a) farmers who diversify into the production of free range eggs are deemed ineligible for grant aid under the western development fund and (b) such an alternative farming enterprise is not encouraged both as an area of job creation and in the supply of a top quality food product favoured by the consumer.

Investment aids for poultry and egg production are prohibited under Council Regulation (EEC) No. 797/85 on improving the efficiency of agricultural structures.
